Meredith Hama-Brown’s work as a director has taken part in various international film festivals including: Palm Springs Shortfest, Shnit, Fantastic Fest, and Fantasia International Film Festival. In 2018 she was awarded the Telus ‘Sea to Sky’ award at the Vancouver International Film Festival, the ‘Best Narrative Film’ award at Las Cruces International Film Festival and the ‘Best Film’ award at the Future of Film Show for her film ‘Broken Bunny’. Her work has been featured on Booooooom, Nowness, Mâché Digital, Ion Magazine and Discorder.
As an actor, she has appeared in numerous independent films and commercials. She has worked with several notable directors including Vincent Haycock, Sophie Jarvis and Matthew Tichenor. Her work as an actor has screened worldwide at various festivals, including Clermont Ferrand (Focus on Canada Series), Vancouver International Film Festival, Morbido Film Festival (Mexico), Seattle International Asian American Film Festival and New Renaissance Film Festival (Amsterdam) where she was nominated for Best Actress. She was also nominated for a Leo Award for ‘Best Actress in a Short Film’ for her work on ‘Cinephiliac’ (Matthew Tichenor). During the last three years, she has begun to delve into the comedic world of improvisation and is currently performing on the Blind Tiger Comedy House Team.
In her work as both a director and actor, she likes to explore complex psychological themes. Her projects as a writer/director often centre around the issues of power dynamics in a relationship, identity and mortality.
